Typical system architectures
Depending on the equipment in the motorhome, an individual electrical circuit is selected. Below are typical examples for direct (DC) and alternating current (AC). Each system is adapted to your needs.
Great for small motorhomes where 230V AC appliances are not planned. Such schemes can be with one voltage rating, or with two when there is a need to power 12V and 24V consumers.
The Automotive DC scheme allows using all types of batteries as auxiliary: LiFePO4 and other lithium-based battery options, as well as traditional lead-acid, including sealed AGM and GEL types.
Charging the auxiliary battery is possible in several ways:
From the 12V alternator (while driving)
Using Orion XS 1400, which accepts the unstabilized voltage of the alternator and performs a full three-stage charging algorithm.
From solar panels
Using an MPPT solar charger, which performs a full three-stage charging algorithm.
From the grid or a 230V generator
Using a charger of the required rating so that the battery receives a full charge in a short time.
Powering 12V consumers occurs through a battery deep discharge protection device. Powering 24V consumers is provided by a 12/24V converter.
System monitoring is performed by a SmartShunt measuring shunt or a BMV-712 battery monitor:
- Current data: % charge, voltage (V), current (A), power (W), consumed capacity (Ah), estimated autonomous runtime
- Historical data: deepest discharge, last discharge, average discharge, number of charge cycles, min/max voltage
- Graphical data: dependencies in graphical form for the selected period of time
- Additional: monitoring of battery temperature or starter battery voltage is possible
Used for larger motorhomes where 230V appliances are provided. The system logic is built for a quality rest while traveling, wherever you are — in a campsite or alone in the wild.
This scheme contains all necessary protections both on the alternating current side and on the 12V direct current side. In this case, three parallel 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries are used. A wide range of Victron Energy inverters allows the use of 24V and 48V batteries.
Battery charging is performed in several ways:
From the 12V alternator (ICE)
Using the Orion Smart charger × 2 pcs. for greater power, performs a full three-stage charging algorithm for LiFePO4.
From solar panels
Using the MPPT SmartSolar 100/50 solar charger, which performs a full three-stage charging algorithm.
From the grid or a 230V generator
Using a powerful charger built into the MultiPlus hybrid inverter.
All units are monitored by Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX — the central controller. Connected to it: internet router, MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50 inverter, solar charger, SmartShunt 500A, fuel tank sensors, battery temperature, smoke, humidity sensors, GX Touch touchscreen.
All data is recorded on a memory card and instantly transmitted to the "cloud", available on your smartphone, tablet, or computer in real-time. You can add any number of users with different access levels.

To make the power system work efficiently, start simple: describe exactly how you will use your motorhome. This will help properly select all key components: batteries, inverter, chargers, solar panels, protection.
Do you plan to use 230 V appliances (kettle, air conditioner, coffee maker)? If so — you need an inverter or an inverter-charger (e.g., MultiPlus).
Make a list of appliances: name, voltage, current/power, peak power, number of hours of operation, which appliances can work simultaneously. You can use a ready-made table for load calculation
Consider: duration of the autonomy cycle, load type (AC/DC), battery type (AGM/GEL/LiFePO₄), available charging sources (grid, alternator, solar charger, generator), safety factor for losses and temperature.

Monitoring and automations
A well-chosen system is only half the battle. Control, convenience, and automation are what take the operating experience to the next level. Manage devices remotely, receive notifications, view statuses — or set it once and enjoy autonomy.
🔌 Digital minimalism
Install an analog control panel (Digital Multi Control), add a BMV-700 or BMV-702 battery monitor — and get all the necessary information on a compact display without Wi-Fi. Old-school LED statuses and an LCD display with all the necessary information!

Usually, updates are no more than 1–2 times a year, but their importance can be critical to system stability.
Physical maintenance
Due to vibrations and the specifics of motor vehicles, we recommend a scheduled system check 1–2 times a year: checking all connections, cleaning contacts, testing the operation of each unit (inverter, MPPT, batteries, Cerbo), firmware updates, inspection report with recommendations.

What is ECE R10-4?
This is a mandatory European Union standard for automotive electronics. It ensures that additional equipment — inverters, chargers, controllers, monitoring — does not create electromagnetic interference and does not affect the operation of the vehicle's standard systems.

Underestimating peaks
Choosing an inverter «close» to the induction cooker/AC limit.

Direct charge from alternator
Leads to overheating of the vehicle generator and its failure. Especially when charging large capacity batteries from 150-200Ah. Charging with unstabilized voltage reduces the battery's lifespan.

Lack of selective DC protection
Risk of short circuit and overload.

Off-grid inverter when grid is present
Does not allow using appliances directly from the 230V grid and charging the battery simultaneously — current passes through the batteries.
