Battery Monitor BMV-700 — is a high-precision battery monitor of the new generation from Victron Energy, which provides the user with a complete picture of the battery status in real time with non-volatile memory.
The monitor is suitable for AGM, GEL, as well as LiFePO4 lithium batteries, and measures voltage, current, consumed capacity, time to discharge, and can also optionally display battery temperature.
This is an indispensable tool for those who want to monitor the health of their battery, extend its life and prevent deep discharges or overheating.
Supplied with a Victron 500A/50mV shunt - link to technical specifications
Key benefits of the Victron BMV-700 battery monitor
- High accuracy of current measurement: up to 0.01 A
- Measures:
- Current battery charge (% SoC)
- Consumed capacity (Ah)
- Calculates time to full discharge, hours / minutes
- Works with all battery types, including LiFePO4 and other types of lithium batteries
- Supports battery temperature and voltage monitoring (with optional sensor)
- Has a programmable relay output — for signaling, load disconnection or starting and stopping the generator
- Easy and quick setup via menu or VictronConnect (via VE.Direct)
- Large display with backlight for convenience in the dark
- Low power consumption – only 4 mA
Controlling the fuel generator via the BMV battery monitor relay
Battery monitors BMV-700 and other Victron series models have a built-in relay output that can be programmed to automatically start and stop the generator depending on the battery charge level (SoC).
How does it work?
- The user sets threshold values for the State of Charge (for example, <50% for start and >95% for stop).
- When the battery discharges below the set value, the relay closes and signals the generator to start.
- After reaching the set charge level — the relay opens and the generator turns off.
- Additionally, you can set an on/off delay to avoid “overshoots” during voltage or current fluctuations.
This is an ideal solution for:
- Autonomous power systems (cottages, remote facilities)
- Campers, motor homes
- Marine vessels
- Home ESS systems with a backup diesel or gasoline generator
Usage scenarios
- Control of the charge level of AGM or GEL batteries in a home or mobile system
- Monitoring the condition of LiFePO₄ batteries with temperature compensation
- Autonomous power systems in vans, yachts or trailers
- Stationary energy storage systems, ESS
- Application in solar generation systems — for precise energy balance
Communication and monitoring interfaces
- VE.Direct – connection to:
- VictronConnect (via Bluetooth dongle or USB)
- GX-devices (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, Venus GX)
- Relay output – for load, generator or alarm control
- Temperature sensor input – battery temperature monitoring
- LCD display – with backlight and the ability to display all parameters
