Janitza UMG 103-CBM — is a high-precision, next-generation power quality analyzer designed to measure and monitor electrical parameters in three-phase systems. The device records voltage, current, frequency, harmonics, and other power quality indicators, providing accurate analysis and diagnostics of the power grid. The UMG 103-CBM is ideal for power monitoring, energy audits, and building automation systems in industrial facilities and municipal utilities.
Description and Purpose
The device was developed by the German company Janitza electronics GmbH — a global leader in the field of energy monitoring and power quality. The UMG 103-CBM model (firmware version 2.0) features a built-in 4 MB memory module for storing measurements and a BR1632 battery (service life of 8–10 years), ensuring stable operation even during power outages.
Key Features
The device measures parameters of three-phase systems with a neutral in TT and TN networks with a rated voltage of up to 277 V (between phase and neutral) or 480 V (between phases). For accurate analysis, it features 5.4 kHz sampling and support for Fourier analysis up to the 40th harmonic. The current inputs are rated for a nominal current of 5 A (maximum 6 A), and an overload of up to 60 A for 1 second will not damage the device.
Connection Features
The UMG 103-CBM features convenient terminals for connecting conductors with a cross-section ranging from 0.08 to 2.5 mm² (AWG 28–12), with a tightening torque of up to 0.5 N·m and an 8 mm stripping length. Installation is performed on a standard 35 mm DIN rail in accordance with IEC/EN 60999-1 and DIN EN 50022. The device does not require forced ventilation, and the housing complies with fire resistance class UL94V-0 and protection rating IP20 against solid particles.
Power is supplied directly from the measured voltage—that is, the device does not require a separate power source. Power can be supplied from either a single-phase system (115–277 V, 50/60 Hz) or a three-phase system (80–277 V, 50/60 Hz). Maximum power consumption is only 1.5 VA, making it energy-efficient and suitable for continuous operation.
Communications and Integration
An RS-485 interface with support for the Modbus RTU protocol (Slave mode) is used for communication with other systems. Available baud rates are 9.6, 19.2, 38.4, 57.6, and 115.2 kbps, allowing the UMG 103-CBM to be integrated into larger energy management systems or BMS platforms. This simplifies remote device polling, data transmission, and automatic load control.
Design Features
The device measures 98 × 71.5 × 46 mm and weighs approximately 200 g. Its compact size allows for the installation of multiple units in narrow control cabinets or electrical panels. The front panel features LED status indicators that simplify diagnostics and operation checks.
