MultiPlus-II 48/4500/55-32 GX is a high-tech, next-generation multifunctional inverter from the Dutch brand Victron Energy. This model combines a powerful pure sine wave inverter, an intelligent battery charger with adaptive technology, an ultra-fast automatic transfer switch (UPS class), and a full-featured GX controller with an LCD display in a single enclosure.
This device is designed for flexible Energy Storage Systems (Victron ESS), off-grid, and backup setups where deep remote monitoring, synchronization with grid-tied solar inverters, BMS batteries, and fuel generators are required.
Key Advantages and Functional Features
- Nominal Power: 4 kW (at 25°C), with time-limited scaling up to 4.5 kW (for 2 hours) or 6 kW (for 25 minutes).
- Pure Sine Wave 230 V — ensures completely safe operation for sensitive household appliances, medical equipment, and server hardware.
- High Efficiency: maximum inverter efficiency reaches up to 95%.
- Low Self-Consumption: only 20 W in normal mode, 13 W in AES mode, and down to 8 W in Search energy-saving mode.
- Powerful Adaptive Charging: battery charge current is up to 55 A (at 25°C) with temperature compensation.
- Wide Temperature Range: stable operation from −40 to +65°C thanks to active fan cooling.
- Universal Battery Compatibility: supports lithium (LiFePO₄), lead-acid, and other battery types.
- Built-in GX Module: integrated LCD display (2x16 characters), Wi-Fi, Ethernet, BMS-Can port, VE.Direct, and USB allow system connection to the VRM cloud without purchasing extra devices.
- PowerControl / PowerAssist — grid or generator overload protection by automatically limiting charge current or instantly dynamically adding insufficient power from the battery.
Technological Features and Topology
Two AC Outputs: the main output ensures uninterruptible power supply to critical loads (UPS function). The second (auxiliary) output is designed for loads that should automatically turn off when the external grid is down to prevent battery draining (e.g., water heaters).
Flexible Solar Generation Integration: the inverter supports both DC-coupled systems (via MPPT solar charge controllers) and AC-coupled systems (with grid-tied inverters). The device uses data from an external current sensor to optimize self-consumption and prevent backfeeding into the grid.
Parallel and Three-Phase Operation: supports combining multiple inverters to scale system capacity. Notably, only one inverter in the entire system needs to be the GX modification.
Remote Control and Analytics via VRM
The built-in GX core transmits all system operating parameters to the free Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal. Via the VRM website or mobile app, users can fully change settings, monitor battery state of charge (SOC), view consumption graphs, and receive push notifications or emails in case of alarm events.
