The MultiPlus 12/1200/50-16 hybrid inverter — is Victron Energy’s flagship inverter-charger, combining in a single unit a powerful 1200 VA (1000 W), a 12 V 50 A charger, an automatic transfer switch, and support for energy storage systems (ESS).
This device is designed for off-grid, backup, grid-tied, and hybrid solutions. It easily scales to three-phase or parallel systems with a capacity of up to 30 kVA in single-phase mode and up to 90 kVA in three-phase mode.
Thanks to its unique PowerControl and PowerAssist features, the MultiPlus 12/1200/50-16 hybrid inverter is the ideal solution for solar power stations, backup systems, off-grid home power, commercial facilities, and transportation.
Key advantages of the MultiPlus Compact inverter
Most of the key parameters listed below outperform competing models from European manufacturers and significantly outperform budget Asian solutions.
-
Power – rated: 1200 VA / 1000 W, peak: 2400 W, suitable for heavy starting loads.
-
True 230 V sine wave – flawless operation with all sensitive devices.
-
High efficiency – up to 93%, efficient operation with minimal losses and negligible heat generation.
-
Low idle power consumption – up to 2 W in Search Mode.
-
Wide input voltage range of 9.5–17 V – optimized for use with LiFePO4 batteries; the charger and inverter can be easily configured for almost all known types of lithium-based and acid-based batteries.
-
Operates at temperatures from -40…+65°C – stable performance even under extreme temperature and humidity conditions; works perfectly in cars and yachts; can be installed outdoors in cabinets, unheated rooms, etc.
-
Works with all types of generators – gasoline, diesel, inverter, and gas. The inverter has a wide range of settings for compatible operation with generators and is quick and easy to configure. It can control the generator’s status (start/stop) based on the battery charge.
-
Flexible system of additional options – allows you to monitor, control, reconfigure, and update the software via a computer and the internet.
-
Modern VRM software – allows you to keep the system under full control, receive pre-configured notifications about system changes (power outage, battery discharge to a certain percentage, automatic generator start or stop, and any other events can be used as triggers for push notifications and process automation).
Technical Features
-
Two independent AC outputs
The first output – main, uninterruptible: powers all critical loads even during a power outage.
The second output is active only when connected to the grid or a generator, making it ideal for secondary loads (water heater, car charging, etc.). -
PowerControl – grid overload protection
A consumption limit is set for the grid or generator. The inverter automatically distributes power: part goes to charging the batteries, the rest to the load, without exceeding the set maximum. -
PowerAssist – power boost during peaks
During peak loads, when the generator or grid cannot keep up, the MultiPlus automatically connects the batteries as a power source. Once the load drops, the batteries recharge. -
Full solar support
The MultiPlus supports operation in hybrid and off-grid systems with solar MPPT controllers or grid-tied inverters. It operates in self-consumption, backup, and offline modes. -
Remote control and monitoring
Connect to Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, the mobile app via the VE.Bus Smart Dongle, or via the VRM portal for full control from anywhere in the world. -
Remote system configuration
Via VRM or PC (connection via MK3-USB), you can configure all inverter parameters—voltage, modes, limits, relay logic, etc. -
Three-phase operation and scaling
Up to 6 inverters can be connected in parallel, or 3 inverters in a three-phase system (with the option of parallel operation in each phase). An ideal solution for businesses and mini-power plants.
Application scenarios
- Off-grid and backup power supply for private homes
- Office centers and commercial facilities with backup power and tariff optimization
- Farms and agricultural facilities for powering high-capacity pumps and coolers
- Yachts and boats, campers, vans — independence anywhere
- Manufacturing facilities, workshops – powerful power supply for equipment and machine tools
- Hybrid solar power stations (ESS) – integration with PV inverters and batteries
- Backup power for critical infrastructure (alarm systems, telecom, IT)
Complies with the ECE R10-4 electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard
ECE R10-4 is an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard applicable to electronic equipment used in vehicles. It regulates requirements for electromagnetic interference emissions and immunity to external electromagnetic influences.
What does ECE R10-4 certification mean for Victron Energy inverters?
Low level of electromagnetic emissions
– The inverters do not generate radio frequency interference that could affect radio communications, GPS, mobile networks, or other electronic systems in cars, yachts, or industrial equipment.
High resistance to electromagnetic interference
– Inverters operate reliably even in challenging conditions where sudden voltage fluctuations or strong electromagnetic fields may occur (e.g., in trucks, buses, and heavy equipment).
Safe integration into transportation systems
– Complies with the requirements of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), allowing the use of inverters in cars, campers, marine vessels, and other vehicles without the risk of negatively affecting the host device’s electronic systems or vehicle safety systems such as ABS.
Quality assurance and compliance with international standards
– ECE R10-4 compliance confirms that Victron Energy products have undergone rigorous testing and meet international safety requirements for use in transportation.
What does this mean for users of Inverter Smart inverters?
-
Legal use in vehicles without the need for additional certification.
-
Compatibility with other electronic systems – the inverter does not interfere with radio, navigation, autopilot, GPS, or other electrical devices.
-
Stable operation in challenging conditions – marine vessels, RVs, commercial vehicles, and special-purpose equipment.
-
Protection against electromagnetic interference – the inverter does not fail during sudden voltage fluctuations.
Communication interfaces
-
VE.Bus port – for parallel/three-phase operation, configuration, and communication with GX controllers for internet connectivity.
-
Programmable relay – allows you to automate necessary processes.
-
Optional Bluetooth – use the VE.Bus Smart dongle to control the inverter directly from your smartphone via the state-of-the-art VictronConnect app.
-
Optional USB Type A or Type C – connect the inverter to a PC using the Interface MK3-USB cable.
Supports ESS (Energy Saving System)
Victron ESS – a next-generation smart energy system that allows you to:
-
Intelligent source management (grid/generator, battery, solar energy) – priority given to renewable energy.
-
24/7 backup – critical loads are always covered.
-
Self-consumption – minimization of electricity costs.
-
Flexible adaptation to rates – charge at night, discharge during peak hours or according to another convenient schedule.
-
VRM visualization – comprehensive analytics, event log, remote support.
The goal of ESS is to significantly reduce electricity costs and protect consumers from regular or emergency power outages. ESS is optimized for the user’s specific electricity usage scenarios to achieve maximum independence and efficiency in solar energy utilization.
LiFePO₄ support with data exchange – safety and accuracy
The MultiPlus 12/1200/50-16 is fully compatible with lithium batteries, including LiFePO₄ with BMS via VE.Bus and/or VE.Can. Data exchange allows:
- accurately measure SOC (state of charge)
- prevent overcharging or deep discharge, which damages the battery
- automatically limit current or disconnect the load when critical battery parameters are reached
- synchronize the charging profile according to the battery manufacturer’s recommendations.
- log all warnings and critical events in the event log
- maintain the warranty throughout the maximum service life
This is critically important for the safety, service life, and stable operation of batteries in modern power systems.
