The Victron VDI-32 — is a galvanic isolator designed to protect boat and RV electrical systems from electrochemical corrosion caused by stray currents through the ground when connected to shore power. The device automatically blocks unwanted current in the grounding conductor without interfering with the operation of circuit breakers and inverters.
Why is a galvanic isolator needed?
When a boat or motorhome is connected to shore power, microcurrents can circulate between the hull and ground via a common ground connection, causing corrosion of metal parts. The Victron VDI-32 breaks the direct current path between the shore power grid ground and the vessel’s hull, while allowing the 50/60 Hz alternating current required for the operation of protective devices to pass through unimpeded.
