Riello Sentinel Dual SDU — is a universal online UPS (VFI-SS-111) that supports both horizontal (rack) and vertical (tower) installation. The model is designed for critical applications: servers, data storage systems, medical complexes, industrial automation. Sentinel Dual SDU provides precise voltage regulation, stable frequency and zero switching time. Thanks to support for external battery cabinets and advanced communication capabilities, the device is often used in critical IT infrastructures. Diagnostics covers all functional units: power electronics, battery system, bypass, cooling and communication interfaces.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Checking the integrity of the case, the condition of power connectors, communication ports, rack or floor mounting.
- Fixing model parameters: rated power, firmware version, installation date, connecting external batteries.
- Assessing operating conditions: ventilation, temperature, dust, humidity, compliance with manufacturer's instructions.
- Visual assessment for signs of overheating, vibrations, third-party interference.
Electrical tests
- Analysis of input parameters: voltage, frequency, asymmetry, presence of overvoltages or sags.
- Output voltage control: RMS, frequency stability, waveform, absence of distortion.
- Checking the reaction when switching between mains power, inverter, static bypass.
- Load testing: inverter behavior during current surges or changes in load characteristics.
Inverter / bypass testing
- Inverter stability assessment: long-term load, temperature, reaction to changes in consumption.
- Bypass functionality testing: automatic switching during overloads, manual switching (if necessary).
- Event and log analysis: history of failures, switching, temperature accidents, short circuits.
Battery (battery system)
- Battery compartment inspection: physical condition, battery case tightness, terminal quality, signs of degradation.
- Voltage measurement on each block or section, check for balance and uniformity of charge.
- Charger efficiency analysis: current, voltage in Float/Boost modes.
- Optional — backup power test under load (with registration of autonomy time).
Cooling
- Check the condition of the ventilation system: fan operation, component temperature, noise.
- Inspection of ventilation ducts: presence of dust, foreign objects, reduced heat dissipation efficiency.
- Assessment of the temperature regime of the inverter, battery, internal components.
Communications / monitoring
- Test of the display and control panel: access to current parameters, event logs, settings.
- Check the operation of USB, RS-232, SNMP (if available): data transfer, response to requests, integration with PowerShield³ software; or external BMS.
- Analysis of available updates, firmware status, network protocol support.
Technical report
- Preparation of a report on the status of all nodes: inverter, battery, bypass, cooling, communication.
- Documentation of identified problems: error codes, failure history, temperature deviations.
- Providing recommendations for maintenance: battery replacement, ventilation cleaning, software updates, etc.
When diagnostics are needed
- Regularly — annually according to the requirements of critical equipment operation.
- After failures or switching to bypass, loss of autonomous time, appearance of error codes.
- After installation, during commissioning or when changing the configuration of the power system.
- After long-term storage, or when transferring the UPS to a new operating mode/new environment.
