Legrand TRIMOD MCS — is a three-phase modular online double-conversion UPS (VFI-SS-111) designed for critical applications, including banking, healthcare, telecommunications, and industrial automation. Its architecture provides fully independent modules with a capacity of 5-10 kVA, which can be combined up to 60 kVA with N+X redundancy. The uniqueness of TRIMOD MCS lies in its high flexibility, fast hot swapping of modules, and optimized energy consumption. What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Inventory of active and redundant modules, verification of N+X configuration.
- Assessment of the physical condition of the housing, cabinet, interface connectors and access panels.
- Monitoring of installation, connection of input/output lines, grounding.
- Analysis of temperature conditions, ventilation, presence of contaminants in the ventilation holes.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage parameters on three phases: symmetry, frequency, stability.
- Output voltage control: accuracy, waveform, regulation quality with alternating load.
- Testing the response to switching between inverter, grid and bypass.
- Evaluation of power factor, harmonic levels (THDi, THDu) and system efficiency.
Inverter / rectifier / bypass test
- Functional test of each module: inverter, rectifier, DC/AC converter.
- Monitoring the operation of the static bypass: switching, protection, synchronization with the grid.
- Reading event logs: emergency trips, overloads, warnings.
- Checking the interaction between modules, including backup ones.
Battery (battery system)
- Overview of battery connections: battery type, availability, ventilation.
- Measuring voltage for each block, currents charging/discharging, internal resistance.
- Charging mode control: Float, Boost, charge uniformity analysis.
- Possibility of autonomous power supply test (upon agreement).
Cooling
- Checking fans on all modules: operability, noise, wear.
- Temperature control of power components: inverter modules, rectifiers, battery packs.
- Analysis of ventilation flow, contamination of filters or cooling channels.
Communications / monitoring
- Testing the local display and control panel: clarity of indication, navigation, messages.
- Checking network interfaces: SNMP, RS-485, Modbus TCP/RTU, Dry Contact (optional).
- Integration with centralized BMS or SCADA (if available).
Technical report
- Documentation of parameters of all modules, battery measurements, event logs and warnings.
- Identification of potentially defective or worn elements.
- Recommendations for replacing modules, batteries or fans, updating software.
When diagnostics are needed
- At least once a year — according to the regulations for modular systems.
- After installing a new module or changing the backup configuration.
- In the event of errors or failures in one of the modules, messages on the display or reduced autonomy.
- After a long downtime or switching to standby mode.
