Victron Energy Quattro — is a high-performance inverter-charger with built-in automatic bypass and support for two independent AC sources. The device combines an inverter, charger and power switch in a single housing, designed for autonomous and backup power systems in residential, marine, industrial and transportation applications. Quattro supports parallel operation of up to 6 units, phase synchronization (1/3 phase), integration with VRM-portal and GX systems. Due to the complexity of the configuration and the responsibility of the functions, regular diagnostics are critical for stable operation.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Visual inspection of the condition of the housing, AC-in/AC-out terminals, DC connections, ventilation holes.
- Analysis of installation conditions: availability of ventilation, vibrations, temperature conditions, dust.
- Overview of the overall configuration (single-phase / three-phase system, parallel inverters, operation with a generator).
Electrical tests
- Checking voltage and frequency on both AC inputs (Input 1, Input 2) and output.
- Measurement of voltage/current under load in inverter and grid modes.
- Test switching between power sources: mains ↔ generator ↔ inverter.
- Assessment of sine wave quality, presence of harmonics, voltage stability in inverter mode.
Inverter, bypass, charging module
- Checking inverter parameters: voltage stability, switching time, overload response.
- Assessment of internal bypass operation during automatic and manual switching.
- Analysis of the charging algorithm: Bulk / Absorption / Float (or Storage), battery type compliance.
- Checking PowerAssist logic (generator/grid support) and parallel synchronization.
Battery (battery system)
- Checking battery voltage, charge/discharge current, temperature and internal resistance (if available).
- Reading data from Battery Monitor (BMV-712) or SmartShunt (if installed).
- Assessment of balance, state of charge (SOC), remaining capacity, total battery life.
- Checking interaction with BMS (especially for lithium batteries compatible with Victron).
Cooling
- Checking fan operation (in models with active cooling), noise level.
- Analysis of temperature data from VE.Bus / Venus OS or via VE.Configure.
- Assessment of overheating, thermal protection trips, emergency stops.
Communications / monitoring
- Checking communication with Cerbo GX, Color Control GX, Venus OS.
- Reading VE.Bus logs, AC/DC statuses, events from the VRM portal (if connected).
- Assessment of operation with other components (MPPT, Lynx, Digital Input/Relay).
- Firmware update (if necessary), cloud connection stability check.
Technical report
- Full technical report with test results: AC/DC parameters, SOC, BMS statuses, error log.
- Description of detected faults, worn components or critical settings.
- Recommendations for optimizing the configuration, updating the software, replacing the battery or connecting external systems.
When diagnostics are needed
- Regularly (once a year) or before changes to the system (adding a generator, panels, battery).
- After an emergency shutdown, VRM errors or unstable inverter operation.
- When switching from VRLA to lithium batteries or vice versa.
- After prolonged downtime, storage, installation in difficult conditions (humidity, dust).
