Liebert® EXM2 — is a modern three-phase double-conversion (VFI) uninterruptible power supply system developed by Vertiv (formerly Emerson) for mid-scale critical facilities. Due to its high efficiency, wide power range (100-250 kVA), parallel operation and advanced monitoring, the EXM2 is actively used in data centers, healthcare facilities, industry and telecommunications. Its diagnostics require a comprehensive approach with separate monitoring of power, communication and battery subsystems.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Checking the external condition of the UPS: display, indicators, ventilation, tightness of the case.
- Checking the connections of power cables, grounding, battery buses.
- Analysis of operating conditions: temperature regime, access to maintenance, ventilation of the room.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input three-phase voltage, frequency, balancing by phases.
- Control of output parameters: voltage, frequency, stability under load.
- Estimation of the level of harmonics, power factor, efficiency at different loads.
- Testing the transition from mains power to the inverter in case of power loss.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Checking the operation of the inverters in normal, emergency and test modes.
- Monitoring the operation of the automatic and static bypass, checking the switching time and event logic.
- Testing the charging module: charge mode, current, stability, overload response.
- Analysis of the controller's internal event logs and energy data.
Battery (battery system)
- Inspection of battery cabinets or external modules: terminals, connections, general condition.
- Checking the voltage on each bank or module, measuring the charge/discharge currents.
- Estimating the capacity and balance of the batteries when simulating autonomous operation.
- Analysis of the quantity cycles, element degradation, discrepancies between groups.
Cooling
- Checking fans and their operation under load.
- Measuring the temperatures of power modules, inverters, chokes, control board.
- Inspection of ventilation ducts, filters, degree of clogging.
Communications / monitoring
- Testing the touch display, viewing data and logs through the built-in control system.
- Checking the operation of SNMP, Modbus, Dry Contacts, USB / Ethernet / RS-485 interfaces.
- Integration control with BMS / DCIM / SCADA systems (at the customer's request).
- Validation of communication between modules during parallel operation (if applicable).
Technical report
- A document with recorded parameters: voltages, currents, temperature, efficiency, etc.
- Analysis of the condition of the battery, inverter, charger, bypass, cooling.
- Recommendations for maintenance or scheduled replacement of components.
When diagnostics are needed
- Annually — according to the operating regulations for three-phase mid-range UPSs.
- After power failures, accidents or prolonged bypass mode.
- Before commissioning after prolonged storage or movement.
- After installing new battery cabinets or updating firmware.
