The KStar UBR series UPSs are modular online double-conversion uninterruptible power supply systems designed for critical applications such as data centers, telecommunications hubs, medical and industrial facilities. Thanks to the modular architecture, these UPSs allow for power scaling and provide high fault tolerance, but require careful maintenance of each module separately.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Assessment of the general condition of the modular system: cabinet, power and control modules, ventilation zones.
- Verification of correct installation and connection of individual modules (inverter, charger, control).
- Analysis of the operating environment: temperature, humidity, pollution, dust.
- Overview of the state of power connection, load, grounding.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage and frequency parameters.
- Control of output voltage, frequency stability, waveform.
- Testing of system behavior when switching between the network, inverter and bypass.
- Verifying uniform load on all active modules.
Inverter/bypass testing
- Separate testing of each inverter module: operation under load, start-up diagnostics, presence of internal errors.
- Monitoring the operation of automatic and manual bypass, assessing the time and stability of switching.
- Synchronization with the network, behavior in module failure mode.
Battery (battery system)
- Checking external battery cabinets: terminal condition, connection, ventilation.
- Measuring voltage on each battery (in case of access to interfaces or manually).
- Testing voltage on battery groups, monitoring charge/discharge currents.
- Estimating actual battery backup time, behavior when switching to Battery.
Cooling
- Checking all fans of each module: startup, noise level, efficiency.
- Temperature control on key elements (inverters, rectifiers, battery cells).
- Assessing the condition of filters, ventilation ducts, detecting overheating or reduced cooling efficiency.
Communications / monitoring
- Testing the UPS communication module and communication with all active modules in the system.
- Checking SNMP, RS-485, USB or monitoring interface for availability, logging and correct identification of modules.
- Reviewing event logs: overloads, synchronization failures, module errors, emergency records.
Technical report
- Documenting the operating parameters of each module: input/output, errors, logs, cooling status, battery, load.
- Assessment of the health of the entire system and individual modules: detection of faulty or degraded elements.
- Recommendations for replacing faulty modules, fans, battery or updating the software (if supported).
When diagnostics are required
- Scheduled maintenance every 6-12 months, especially for systems with a large number of modules.
- Presence of fault messages on the display or in the system log.
- Periodic or uneven load on the modules, frequent switching to bypass.
- Reduced battery runtime or incorrect battery behavior.
- Preparation for system scaling or adding new modules.
