Eaton 93PS Marine — is a specialized three-phase online double-conversion UPS designed for marine and offshore applications. It features enhanced corrosion protection, vibration resistance, and marine standard certifications (DNV, ABS, etc.). It is used on ships, drilling rigs, control platforms, communication and automation systems. Diagnostics of this series require attention to the specifics of operation in the marine environment: in particular, ventilation systems, the condition of protective coatings and the reliability of communication with ship control systems.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Assessment of the condition of the hull (anti-corrosion coating, tightness of panels, absence of traces of salt corrosion).
- Verification of correct installation in accordance with ship standards: grounding, vibration isolation, ventilation.
- Review of operating conditions: humidity, presence of condensate, contamination with salt deposits.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage parameters on each phase, frequency control, network quality.
- Analysis of output voltage in mains and inverter operation mode: accuracy, symmetry, harmonics.
- Simulation of power loss with verification of inverter operation under load.
- Verification of system response to marine loads — frequent short power drops.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Inverter testing: stability of operation, harmonic level, overheating, adaptation to unstable input.
- Checking the correct operation of the static bypass: smooth switching, fault log.
- Analysis of the charging module: current, voltage, charge mode under variable load.
- Evaluation of event logs via display or network interface (SNMP/Modbus).
Battery (battery system)
- Checking batteries (internal or external): condition of terminals, cables, temperature sensors.
- Measurement of voltage on each element or group, balance check.
- Test of autonomous mode with controlled load.
- Status analysis batteries according to the criteria of SOH (degree of wear) and SOC (current charge).
Cooling
- Diagnostics of ventilation systems: fan speed, presence of overheating alarms, thermal protection tripping.
- Control of cleanliness of filters, air ducts, check for salt deposits blocking the air flow.
- Measurement of temperatures in key areas: inverter, rectifier, control boards.
Communications / monitoring
- Checking the LCD interface: access to event logs, parameters, settings menu.
- SNMP, Modbus TCP/RTU, dry contacts test — connection with ship's SCADA/AMS.
- Assessment of integration with signaling and centralized monitoring systems.
- Verification of alarm functionality, emergency outputs, testing of relay signals.
Technical report
- Full report of all diagnostic sections: voltage, temperatures, battery status, event log.
- Assessment of UPS status compliance with ship's operating standards.
- Recommendations for service: cleaning, fan replacement, software update, battery replacement.
When diagnostics are required
- Regularly according to marine technical regulations (usually every 6 or 12 months).
- After long voyages, mooring or exposure to aggressive conditions (tropics, northern sea).
- When error messages appear, reduced autonomy time or overheating.
- After replacing the battery, updating the configuration or connecting new loads.
