Eaton 9155 Marine — is a three-phase online double conversion UPS, specially adapted for marine applications. It provides uninterrupted power supply to critical systems on ships, offshore platforms, drilling stations and marine automation facilities. The 9155 Marine series UPS is certified according to the requirements of marine classification societies (DNV, ABS, etc.), has an anti-corrosion coating, increased mechanical resistance and a special housing design. Diagnostics of this series provide for a deep technical check taking into account the specifics of the marine environment.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Visual inspection of the condition of the hull: anti-corrosion coating, tightness of panels, fixation of vibration mounts.
- Assessment of installation according to marine standards: electrical grounding, access to service elements.
- Analysis of operating conditions: humidity level, temperature, exposure to salt fog, presence of dust or splashes.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage on three phases, check of harmonics, frequency stability.
- Output voltage control: accuracy, symmetry, stability under different loads.
- Imitation of a network failure: assessment of speed and stability of the transition to autonomous mode.
- Analysis of parameters when switching between mains power, inverter and bypass.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Testing the inverter operation: waveform, harmonic level, temperature of power modules.
- Checking the functioning of the static bypass: switching logic, emergency response, event log.
- Evaluating the charger performance: charge modes, compliance with battery characteristics.
- Reading event logs to analyze critical states, operation history and account for transitions between modes.
Battery (battery system)
- Inspection of battery modules: connection, mechanical condition, signs of degradation.
- Measuring voltage on each block, controlling charge uniformity, checking temperature sensors.
- Autonomous operation test: monitoring the actual backup power time and wear level.
- SOH (State of Health) assessment based on controller data or using external diagnostic tools.
Cooling
- Fan check: noise level, speed, compliance with temperature load.
- Control of temperature zones inside the case: inverter, charging module, control boards.
- Assessment of air exchange efficiency, filter condition and obstacles to air flow (sand, salt, dust).
Communications / monitoring
- Display operation check: reading parameters, event log, module status.
- Diagnostics of external interfaces: USB, RS-232, dry-contact, SNMP or Modbus TCP (if available).
- Integration with shipboard SCADA or PMS (Power Management System) systems — communication and data exchange test.
- Checking emergency outputs, fault indications, transmitting signals to external consoles.
Technical report
- Inspection report with all measured parameters, log analysis and detected deviations.
- Battery condition report: voltage balance, autonomy time, wear, need for replacement.
- Risk assessment and list of recommendations for maintenance, modernization or cleaning of the system.
When diagnostics are needed
- Regularly — not less than once every 12 months, in accordance with the technical standards of classification societies.
- After a long voyage, repair, ship shutdown or power system configuration update.
- When the battery life decreases, error messages appear or changes in UPS behavior.
- Before audit or technical inspections related to certification.
