Eaton 5PX — is a line-interactive UPS with a sine wave output, designed to protect network equipment, servers, storage systems, workstations and peripherals in small and medium-sized IT infrastructure. The series supports both tower and rack-mount installation, is equipped with an LCD display and the ability to monitor detailed energy. Eaton 5PX diagnostics allows you to detect malfunctions in electronics, batteries, monitoring systems and ensure the prevention of accidents in critical network segments.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Visual inspection of the housing, display, communication ports, front panel status and indicators.
- Checking the correctness of installation (rack/shelf), accessibility of air ducts and ventilation.
- Evaluation of the operating environment: dust, temperature, humidity, presence of sources of electromagnetic interference.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage, checking the operation of the AVR (automatic voltage regulator).
- Control of output voltage in mains mode and in battery mode.
- Checking frequency, waveform and quality sine waves.
- Load test at different levels — evaluation of the stability of the inverter under variable load.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Evaluation of the transition between modes: network – battery – network, power continuity.
- Checking the charge controller: voltage, charge current, battery type compliance.
- Reading and analyzing events: transitions, failures, overloads, log entries.
Battery (battery system)
- Checking the condition of each battery module: physical inspection, checking connections and terminals.
- Voltage measurement, cell balance control, battery case temperature.
- Estimating the remaining battery life: SOC (state of charge), SOH (state of health) – according to controller data or manually.
- Simulation of stand-alone mode: fixing the backup power time.
Cooling
- Checking fans: noise level, speed, wear (especially during prolonged operation).
- Assessment of ventilation holes, presence of dust or obstructions to air flow.
- Controlling the temperature of internal components under load.
Communications / monitoring
- Checking the functioning of the LCD display: accuracy of display, correctness of data, navigation.
- Assessing the operation of the USB, serial port, interface card (Network-M2, if installed).
- Testing communication with Eaton Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) or other monitoring systems.
- Checking the settings for an emergency shutdown of the OS via PowerChute or similar solutions.
Technical report
- A document with actual measurements of input/output parameters, battery status, and event logs.
- Identified deviations and potential risks to reliable equipment operation.
- Recommendations for battery replacement, firmware update, cleaning, or communications setup.

- Annually — in accordance with the operating regulations and to ensure stable operation.
- After detecting error messages, reduced battery life, or atypical behavior under load.
- Before connecting new critical consumers or after a long system downtime.
- When replacing the battery or updating the firmware/configuration of the UPS.
