APC Smart-UPS SRT — is a series of single-phase and three-phase online (double-conversion) uninterruptible power supplies with high power density, providing continuous power to critical IT systems, servers, networking equipment and data center infrastructure. SRT is distinguished by support for hot-swappable batteries, the ability to connect external battery cabinets, an expanded display and full compatibility with APC monitoring cards (SmartSlot). Diagnostics of such UPSs is mandatory to maintain stable operation in critical installations.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Assessment of the general condition of the housing, display, indicators, mountings in the rack (Rack) or on the floor (Tower).
- Checking the connections of the input and output power, battery modules (SRT192BP, SRT96BP, etc.).
- Review of operating conditions: temperature, humidity, presence of dust, correct ventilation.
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage (single/three phases), checking frequency compliance, stability assessment.
- Control of output voltage in inverter and bypass modes: level, waveform, frequency.
- Load test (within safety limits): checking the inverter's response to load changes.
- Checking the switching time, the absence of surges or interference when switching between modes.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Detailed analysis of modes: operation from the inverter, external static bypass, linear bypass (if any).
- Evaluation of the charger's operation: current, voltage, charge/suspension status, compliance with the battery type.
- Checking cold start functions, operation without a grid, inverter/charge failure logs.
- Testing emergency shutdown (EPO) modes and interaction with external control relays.
Battery (battery system)
- Inspection of the built-in and connected external battery packs: checking contacts, temperature, LED status.
- Measurement of voltage of each battery group, balancing, battery life under current load.
- Launch Battery Self-Test, evaluation of charge/discharge cycles, Replace Battery / Battery Disconnected messages.
- Analysis of battery wear (SOC/SOH), temperature effect, stability of parameters under load.
Cooling
- Check the status of the cooling system: fan rotation, power element temperature, noise level.
- Cleaning ventilation holes, inspecting for dust and obstructions to airflow.
- Analysis of temperature logs, tracking changes in operation under increased load.
Communications / monitoring
- Checking the LCD display: real-time indication of parameters, access to event logs.
- Evaluation of SmartSlot functionality (SNMP/Web cards AP9640/AP9641): reading logs, statuses, alarms.
- Testing communication with EcoStruxure IT, PowerChute Network Shutdown, NetBotz, DCIM, etc.
- Analysis of dry contact inputs/outputs (where provided), signaling and interaction with the server infrastructure.
Technical report
- Full technical report based on diagnostic results: voltage, temperature, SOC/Runtime parameters, event log.
- Identified battery malfunctions or degradation, need for firmware updates, module replacement, etc.
- Evaluation of system performance in normal and emergency modes.
- Recommendations for service, modernization, replacement of batteries or monitoring cards.
When diagnostics are needed
- Regularly (annually or more often) — in accordance with the requirements of critical IT infrastructure.
- After prolonged emergencies, outages, or Replace Battery, Internal Error, etc. messages.
- Before connecting new servers or expanding the load.
- In case of reduced battery life or atypical ventilation/inverter operation.
