APC UPS from Schneider Electric — are one of the most widely used backup power systems, covering a wide range of applications: from personal offices and network cabinets to large data centers and critical industrial facilities. The most common series include Smart-UPS (Tower and Rack), Easy UPS, Galaxy VM/VX/VS, Symmetra, as well as models with line-interactive architecture. All of them require periodic technical diagnostics to ensure uninterrupted operation and compliance with reliability and safety requirements.
What diagnostics include
Inspection / audit
- Visual assessment of the condition of the housing, indicators, display, battery modules, the presence of alarm signals.
- Checking the connection to power, grounding, air access, operating conditions (humidity, temperature, dust).
- Inspection of connections to external battery cabinets (XR, SYBT, EBM, etc.).
Electrical tests
- Measurement of input voltage by phases, control of network synchronization and stability.
- Evaluation of output voltage in all operating modes: mains, inverter, bypass.
- Load test: operation at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% power (within the permissible limits).
- Checking frequency, power factor, response to short-term power outages.
Inverter / bypass / charge
- Analysis of operating modes: normal, on battery, in bypass mode — with fixing the switching time.
- Checking the charger: voltage, current, modes (boost/float), compliance with the battery type.
- Reading error history, event logs via the SmartSlot, WebCard, LCD interface.
Battery (battery system)
- Inspection of battery blocks: SYBTU, RBC, VRLA or lithium-ion modules — condition of terminals, cables, ventilation.
- Measurement of the voltage of each battery group, control of balance, temperature, charge/discharge cycles.
- Autonomous test using the Load Test / Runtime Calibration functions (if supported).
- Estimation of the backup power time in the current state, recommendations for battery replacement.
Cooling
- Checking the speed and health of fans: system unit, power modules, battery cabinets.
- Analysis of the temperatures of power components under load.
- Cleaning the ventilation holes and checking for contamination with dust particles.
Communications / monitoring
- Checking access to SmartSlot, SNMP/Web (AP9630, AP9640, AP9641, etc.), USB or RS-232 interfaces.
- Assessment of the correctness of data transmission to the EcoStruxure IT system, NetBotz, other DCIM/BMS solutions.
- Testing dry-contact outputs and emergency power off (EPO).
- Reading event logs and diagnosing the system using APC proprietary utilities.
Technical report
- Full report with measured parameters, battery status, ventilation, event logs, service recommendations.
- Fixing detected failures, critical states, forecast of battery life or the need for modernization.
- Formation of documentation for subsequent audits and maintenance planning.

- After malfunction signals, reduced autonomy or atypical system behavior.
