Voltage Fluctuations: Risks to Systems and Solutions with IREM Voltage Stabilizers

⚠️ PROBLEM

Why are voltage fluctuations a critical power quality issue?

Voltage fluctuations are one of the main problems related to power quality and directly affect the reliability of industrial systems. In production environments, specifically in 480 V three-phase grids, voltage fluctuations and amplitude variations can compromise the proper operation of equipment, especially in the absence of a distributed neutral.

To address these problems, 10 voltage stabilizers of various capacities were recently supplied, specially designed to supply industrial equipment intended for the North American market and manufactured in accordance with UL508 standards.

What problems arise in the most sensitive industrial applications?

In the precision mechanical engineering industry, machining equipment, in particular CNC machine tools, does not tolerate voltage fluctuations well. These systems require extremely stable power supply conditions to ensure operational continuity and product quality.

In the presence of fluctuations, production downtime, loss of processed materials, and process anomalies can occur. Even seemingly minor fluctuations can significantly affect machine performance and machining accuracy.

Another critical factor is that power quality problems do not occur exclusively in the external grid. In many cases, they are caused by the interaction of heavy loads connected to the same transformer substation or sharing the same low-voltage distribution busbars.

💡 SOLUTION

What solution ensures operational stability and continuity?

Fluctuation Compensation

To compensate for voltage fluctuations and correct grid asymmetry, voltage stabilizers were introduced for individual machine power supply. The proposed solutions also feature a compact, high-performance design, developed for installation near individual loads, with power ratings from 50 to 100 kVA.

Y-configuration

The installed stabilizers have independent phase regulation and consist of three single-phase units connected in a star configuration without a distributed neutral. This architecture effectively manages unbalanced conditions and ensures a constant voltage regardless of grid conditions and load factor.

⚙️ TECHNICAL FEATURES

What technical features make this program effective?

Design Advantages

The stabilizers are equipped with special design features that increase the reliability and safety of operation:

neutral forming reactor

disconnect systems with lockout/tagout logic

overcurrent protection

integrated bypass switch

Performance Characteristics

The enclosure is made with a metal frame and equipped with wheels to facilitate installation in an industrial environment.

Input voltage: 480 V ±15% at 60 Hz ±5 V

Stabilized output: 480 V ±1%

These characteristics make it possible to supply loads with a fixed and constant voltage, reducing amplitude fluctuations and asymmetry.

What advantages are achieved in production processes?

The use of voltage stabilizers in these applications ensures maximum operational accuracy, which is a fundamental requirement in precision mechanics. Automatic fluctuation regulation helps to prevent failures, reduce production waste, and protect sensitive electronic components.

In this specific case, 10 stabilizers will supply the same number of machining centers, ensuring stable power supply conditions and promoting production continuity and the quality of final products.
